The Beaumont Chamber Foundation's Leadership Beaumont Alumni Committee is hosting a luncheon on "Finding Balance in an Unbalanced World".
The world we live in today presents more challenges than ever. Finding balance, peace, and even joy is especially challenging amid the daily struggles of life. Managing increased workloads, handling family responsibilities, maintaining healthy lifestyles, and squeezing in personal time often adds to an already overloaded schedule. This presentation will focus on developing self-compassion and improving self-care in order to better meet your daily demands. Specific techniques to enhance your “balancing skills” will be covered.
Keynote Speaker:
Dr. Gummelt is the Director of the Social Work Program and Associate Professor at Lamar University. She is a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 20 years of experience in direct practice with children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Gummelt actively serves the golden triangle community as an Executive Team member of the Center for Resiliency at Lamar University, board member for Court Appointed Advocates (CASA) of Southeast Texas, board member for The Recovery Council of Southeast Texas, member of the ExxonMobil Community Advisory Panel, and member of the Lamar University Community Relations Advisory Council. Dr. Gummelt has served as the coordinator and principal researcher for the local “Do the Write Thing” Campaign and as a collaborative researcher on the Jefferson County Adolescent Drug Court grant. She is a highly published author, and her current research focuses on vulnerabilities and resiliency among at-risk populations. Dr. Gummelt is an active member of the Lamar University Athletics Council, the LU College of Arts and Sciences Council, the Jefferson County Domestic Violence Task Force, the Jefferson County Juvenile Justice Council, and the Youth Recovery Council.
Panelists:
Tea Do graduated from Lamar University with a BBA in Marketing and Finance. She is an insurance agent specializing in personal lines and life insurance with Farmers Insurance.
Natasha Garrett graduated from Texas A&M. She is the CEO of G&G Enterprises and is the Executive Director and Franchise owner for BNI TX Greater Golden Triangle.
AJ Turner graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Wiley College. He is now the Founder and CEO of AJ Turner Enterprises, encompassing several marketing and mentorship programs. He also serves on Beaumont City Council.
