Description
Want to know all about the far-reaching implications of the controversial new Overtime Rule that can and actually will affect the survival of some businesses in Southeast Texas?
Maybe you want to know what state and local senators are doing for you in Southeast Texas. The GBCOC is presenting an outstanding opportunity to learn about all of this at a Legislative Summit, on Thurs., Aug. 25, at the Compro Event Center, 4155 W. Cardinal Dr. The event features keynote speaker Congressman Randy Weber.
HR specialist Eliot New will be discussing the Overtime Rule, which could threaten the jobs of many employees in both the for-profit and non-profit arenas. It was recently announced that the US Chamber of Commerce, Texas Association of Business (TAB), National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) have joined together to file a lawsuit in US District Court to fight the ruling, which goes into effect Dec. 1, 2016. The rule increases the threshold at which salaried (exempt) employees must be paid overtime.
There is also growing controversy from both the Democrats and Republicans, who have joined together to thwart the new overtime rule.
At this event, you will also have the opportunity to hear from legislators--state representatives and senators and US congressmen who have voted 70% or greater for chamber-supported business initiatives.Don't miss this riveting and highly educational event!
All 150 members of the Texas House of Representatives have been invited to this 2016 Legislative Summit. Whoever is present will receive special recognition. The Chairman's Award and the Young Professionals Award will be presented to legislators who are working on issues important to our region. Approximately 200 members join the chamber in recognizing the elected officials who have positively impacted the Southeast Texas business community.
