Description
Join us Thursday, March 24 for our monthly luncheon at Basic Foods, sponsored by Common Cents Credit Union. This month's featured speaker is Kim Phelan.
Kim Ware Phelan was born and raised in Beaumont Texas. In 2001, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2004 she received her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech School of Law and immediately went to work as a Prosecutor for the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office. In 2008 she began her private law practice focusing primarily on the representation of children and parents in CPS cases and juvenile offenders. As a proud board member of Mental Health America of Southeast Texas, IEA – Inspire, Encourage, Achieve, and the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute, Kim continues to advocate for underserved individuals, particularly system-affected youth and adults faced with mental health challenges. Other organizations supported by Kim’s advocacy efforts include the Heart Gallery of Southeast Texas, Beaumont Community Partners, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, Family Services of Southeast Texas, Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas, and CASA of Southeast Texas. Kim was named CASA’s Child Advocate of the Year in 2015 and was the recipient of the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Justice Center Award in 2021.
Kim is married to Dade Phelan, who is currently serving as the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, and together they have four sons, Ford, Mack, Hank and Luke.
