Description
Please join us at our next Heritage Happy Hour hosted by The Woman’s Club of Beaumont on Thursday, November 21, 2019. Both our host and their chapter house are historically significant to the Beaumont community and its culture, so come out to learn more about the oldest organization in Beaumont and its 110 year old house built in 1909 that is still used for its original purpose. Giglio Distributing Co. will be showcasing seasonal craft beer, with wine and non-alcoholic beverages also available. FREE to Beaumont Heritage Members , $10 for Non-Members 21+ .
The Woman’s Club of Beaumont was originally established in 1895 as the Beaumont Reading Club during an afternoon tea at the home of Mrs. Hal Greer, the wife of a Beaumont judge. It was started as a social and cultural club where women would share magazine subscriptions and it later served as a library for the area before Beaumont had its own public library. Within five years, the club changed its name to the Women’s Reading Club when it became affiliated with Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs. Edith Fuller Chambers, mother of Ruth and Florence, was a member of the Woman’s Club of Beaumont, as were most community-involved women in Beaumont of her time. It was in 1909 that the home to the Woman’s Club of Beaumont was erected and has continuously served as the chapter house for the oldest organization in Beaumont. The house hosts numerous antiques and historical treasures to view and enjoy, as well as an opportunity to learn more about the club and the local history.
Heritage Happy Hour is an on-going outreach program typically held every other month, with each event highlighting an historical landmark, time, or exhibit, as well as a craft beer or brewery graciously provided by Giglio Distributing Co. or wine underwritten by Earth Analytical Sciences (non-alcoholic beverages also available). We believe that by promoting and sharing our local history and its historical significance in a fun and social way, we can also share and promote the efforts to preserve Beaumont’s historical landscape.
