The iconic Tyrrell Historical Library was built in 1903 as the First Baptist Church. Captain W. C. Tyrrell purchased the church in 1923 and donated the building to the city for use as a library. It served as the main public library for Beaumont from 1926 to 1974, when the new main branch library opened. At that point, it became the Tyrrell Historical Library, holding a vast amount of research content including a Texana and genealogical collection. In July of 1979, the Beaumont Heritage Society presented the Tyrrell Historical Library with a bronze marker designating its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
